UPDATE #3 (THE NEXT EVENING WITH 16 HOURS LEFT)

the poncho is a little more than half way done. i think i'll make it. i may even get adventurous and try to add a cowl neck to it. i've never done a cowl neck but how hard can it be? just knit a super long and slightly wider turtle neck right????? cross your fingers people. just in case, i do have a very boring black, store-bought thang standing by. did i mention that i still have yams and green beans to make tonight too.........

UPDATE #2 (1 HOUR LATER)

SCREW IT. the yarn is all wrong for the gauge that the pattern calls for. the pattern is way too screwy to try to adjust to the yarn's gauge. i'm making this into yet another poncho instead. i'll be using the poncho villa pattern. still aiming to wear it on turkey day!!!!!

UPDATE #1 (2 MINUTES LATER)

HOLY CRAP, I ALREADY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PATTERN. THOSE DAMN GERMANS......

I'M AS CRAZY AS THAT 20 POUND TURKEY YOU HAVEN'T STARTED THAWING YET............

life is so crazy that i had to cancel my trip to seattle for thanksgiving. i'm mostly sad because i won't get to meet sharlyn. i really wanted to see in person how fast she knits!!!!! and of course to meet that lucky and adorable little luca. but alas, the house is just too insane, and the thought of leaving it in this state to go out of town again was giving me MAJOR ANXIETY. i can still use my ticket anytime i want, so hopefully i'll be making it up there in the next few months.

so as if life wasn't crazy enough, i bought this today, because i decided that i need to make this to wear for thanksgiving!!!! yes, folks, it's tuesday, i know. that gives me about 36 hours to crank this out. we're dubbing it the "turkey wrap" because i'm a turkey for even attempting this. i'll give you hourly photo updates just to amuse you while YOUR 20 pound turkey is thawing...........

NOT MUCH GOIN' ON AND TOO MUCH GOIN' ON

work has been insane since i've been back from nyc. so no knitting time. i have all these things i wanna make for cristmas gifts, but can't get started. i did try a new wristband. i can't remember on whose blog i saw them doing the two color rib for a sweater cuff, but that gave me the inspiration. it works really well using noro with all the gradations that happen automatically in the yarn. so i picked out two different places in the yarn where the color changes were happening and used those to contrast against each other in the two color rib. you get this really cool color prism thing going on. and it looks way more complicated than it actually is to make. i'm thinking of making these and selling them at a christmas boutique. how much do you think i could get for them????? i have some oher ideas for some wristbands that i'll hopefully be able to crank out and post soon!!!!

in other news, i forgot to mention that i went to the stitch 'n bitch book signing here in l.a. i couldn't make it to the sunday one which i heard was quite exciting with all the los angeles contributors joining debbie at the book store. the monday one was much mellower, but it was so great to meet debbie in person. she's such a righteous diva!!!! i love that she really wants to take back knitting as more than just what your grandma did as a hobby. i also think it's great that she's doing the book tour by train. apparently, she doen't like to fly, but it also gives her major knitting time!!!! she brought a lot of projects from the book for us to touch and oggle over. i really love this book and can't wait to start making more things from it. i also got to meet one of the women from the l.a. stitch and bitch. i would love to check it out soon, but it's clear across town and i'm not over there much now, but i'll definitely try to pop in now and then.

I'VE BEEN SLACKING I KNOW, SO HERE'S A HUGE PHOTO UPDATE

guess it's just taking forever for me to get back up to speed since getting home form new york. here's some photos from the trip. hope you enjoy....

first, i needed to make a gift for my friend stefani who hosted the first part of my stay, so i started a scarf before i left and finished it on the plane. did you know that the empty seat next to you can also double as a swift????

and here's miss stef in her new fancy multi-directional scarf.

she wore it everywhere, and i told her not to feel obligated to wear it, but she really did love it and wore it everywhere!!! i really love giving gifts to special people and having them enjoy them!!!

next, i needed a knit hat. imagine all the hats i've made for everyone else, but i myself do not have a knit hat. i'd just bought the awesome stitch 'n bitch book before i left and brought it along with me. i made the flame hat out of some noro omichian. i also didn't have a halloween costume, so it worked for me to go as candy corn head.....

the day before the marathon i got to meet up with stacy from my virtual knititng group!!! this was the first meet up i've had in my group as we're sprinkled all over the country and the world (hi stef!) so it was really fun and exciting. we went to a really great and unusual yarn store in manhattan called seaport yarn. does this look like a yarn store to you???? it's actually a marketing research office by day and a yarn store on the weekends!!!

and here's the lovely owner miss andrea wearing a knit cowboy hat!!! she was so awesome!!! they were having a sale and they had food and drinks and every half hour they drew from a jar and announced a new yarn on discount.

here's stacy enjoying the chenille's in the hallway and me oggling over the noro selection.....

here's the trouble we got into before we left ( i think stacy got into more trouble than me)...........

then we went to the waterfront for some kip. notice the brooklyn bridge in the background. i made stacy a quick wristband but she had to seam it herself as i didn't have any scissors!!!!! sorry stacy. check out the finished wristband on her blog.

and that was all before the marathon!!!!! go here to see highlights of the rest of my trip..........

If you...

  1. ...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve? i've thought about this one before. i'd call the restaurant "whateva's cleva" and change the menu every day with all my favorites including, mexican, indian, soul food, veggie friendly, etc.
  2. ...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell? yarn, duh!!!!!
  3. ...wrote a book, what genre would it be? biographies are my favorite, but i can't imagine that my own would be a top seller. probably a crime story.
  4. ...ran a school, what would you teach? tolerance
  5. ...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it? oh, again, that's a difficult one. i'm a musical schizophrenic. some punk, some funk, some metal, some rap, and at least one sappy love song

The WeatherPixie
how come this little pixie never looks like me????
